McAllen Shines Community Champion Award Presented to Alonzo Cantu.

– His dedication to beautifying McAllen has had a profound impact on our community.

The City of McAllen honored Alonzo Cantú today as the first recipient of the “McAllen Shines” Community Champion Award, a program aimed at enhancing the city’s businesses, commercial areas, residential zones, and parks. This idea was conceived after a visit to the city of Tampico, Tamaulipas, when McAllen city officials were impressed by the cleanliness and beautification of that city in southern Tamaulipas.

The McAllen SHINES Community Champion Award is designed to recognize outstanding McAllen citizens who work every day to make the city a better place to live.

“It is a great honor for us to recognize Alonzo Cantu as the first recipient of the McAllen SHINES Community Champion Award. His unwavering commitment to improving the beauty of McAllen’s commercial spaces is a testament to his leadership and dedication to our city,” said McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos. “Alonzo’s work exemplifies the spirit of collaboration and civic pride that defines McAllen SHINES, and we are grateful for his ongoing contributions to making McAllen a better place for everyone.”

McAllen City Manager Isaac J. Tawil echoed this sentiment. “Alonzo Cantu’s dedication to beautifying McAllen has had a profound impact on our community, helping create a more vibrant and welcoming environment not just for residents and visitors, but also for businesses. The McAllen SHINES initiative aims to recognize and celebrate people like Alonzo, who lead by example and inspire all of us to take pride in our city. His tireless efforts and vision continue to elevate McAllen, and we are excited to honor him with this well-deserved recognition,” Tawil concluded.
