According to information provided by the RIA Novosti news agency, Russian diplomats in Mexico City are in communication with local authorities regarding the case of Russian citizen Maria Rigovich, who was kidnapped near the border with the United States, as reported by the press attaché of the diplomatic mission, Andrei Zemsky.
«The embassy is aware of this situation. We are in contact with both the husband of the missing woman and local authorities. We maintain constant surveillance on the matter,» Zemsky said.
According to the husband of the kidnapped Muscovite, Maria Rigovich, as reported to Russian media, on March 14 she was driving towards the city of Reynosa, located just on the border between both countries, accompanied by a local family from the city of Monterrey.
Rigovich managed to report that they were being followed by alleged members of a cartel, but later lost all contact. Later, she sent a message to her husband requesting that he transfer $1,500 to a card whose number «she would tell you.»
